Integration for self-payers – Bogaers provides all levels and all routes.

Integration: how to do it?

To become a citizen, you must learn Dutch. And you must learn how Dutch people live and work. This is a government requirement, as stated in the Civic Integration Act. If you have learned enough, you will take the civic integration exam.
This website is for you if you became obliged to integrate after January 1, 2013. Or if you want to naturalize.

For compulsory and voluntary citizens, but only for self-payers.

Course content

Participants in an integration course follow a number of learning modules to reach level A2 of the European Framework of Reference. This is the level required for the exam. The number of modules depends on the student’s starting level. An absolute beginner (A1-minus) usually needs 600 lessons to reach level A2. At the intake we give the student a realistic advice on the length of the course to follow.

Integration Exam

The questions of the Inburgeringsexamen are about Dutch customs and rules. During the exam, you must also show that you know the Dutch language well enough. These are the exam components:

  • Writing (35 min.): Using pen and paper, write short letters and fill out a form.
  • Speaking (35 min): On the computer watch videos and answer questions.
  • Listening (45 min.): On the computer you will have questions about videos and listen to the texts.
  • Reading (50 min.): On the computer, read short texts and answer questions.
  • Knowledge of Dutch Society (45 min.): On the computer you watch short videos about Dutch situations, for example shopping. You answer questions.
  • Dutch Labor Market Orientation (40 min.): This exam component is mandatory for migrants who became obligated to integrate after January 1, 2015. It is about working and looking for work. You do assignments at home and at school and send the results to DUO. You use result cards for this. Then you have a conversation about this at DUO. One question is about ‘credential evaluation’: what is your diploma or education worth in the Netherlands? You can request your diploma valuation from IDW for free.
